Various Royal Navy institutions are located in the harbour area. On the seaside, next to the clubhouse, the Navy's nautical trainer Poolster is located. The trainer is designed to realistically train Replenishment At Sea procedures. Take a look. Perhaps there will be training and you will immediately have a nice impression of the work on deck in the Navy. Fort Harssens is located under the clubhouse. The fort is open for visitors on certain days. The harbour master can tell you more about it. The Royal Netherlands Lifeboat Association (RNLA)rescue station Den Helder is also located on the site. The lifeboats have a berth in the marina. If they are present and you kindly ask, a tour of the boathouse is sometimes possible. You can make a donation for the RNLA at the harbourmaster's office!
There are many things to see and activities to undertake in Den Helder, most of which are within walking distance from our marina. The old Navy Yard ‘Willemsoord’, as well as the Royal Netherlands Navy College, is situated between the harbour and the city centre. You can reach Willemsoord by going right leaving the Harssens Peninsula, and enter the premises of the Navy Museum on the left after 200 meters.
Willemsoord, the former ship and maintenance yard of the Royal Netherlands Navy, is a monumental part of Den Helder which is gradually developing into an open district. On the old Navy Yard, the offices and warehouses are converted into an event area. On Willemsoord you will find many places to eat and drink. You will also find the Navy Museum, the Rescue Museum and the Museum Harbour. There is also a theater, a cinema, children’s playground and shops.
If you cross the drawbridge, you will reach the city center. There you will find supermarkets, a bakery, a butcher and many other stores. You can use the map on our homepage for your orientation.
The marina of the RNNYC is located about five kilometers from the area of Huisduinen. There you will find one of the fortresses of Den Helder with attractions such as a North Sea Aquarium, the lighthouse ‘Lange Jaap’ and the beach with a beach bar.
